In order to effectively excavate the cultural information of the existing toponymic cultural landscape of ancient
villages and strengthen the protection of the cultural heritage of ancient villages, the present paper took Fenhe River Basin
as the study area and comprehensively analyzed the spatial differentiation and formation mechanism of different types of to⁃
ponymic cultural landscapes by means of nuclear density estimation and geographical detectors, so as to provide a basis for
the protection and inheritance of traditional villages in the basin. The results showed that: (1) The locations names of an⁃
cient villages in the river basin were mainly humanity landscape names, accounting for 64.01% of the total. Among the hu⁃
manity landscape names, the family names were the most, and the natural landscape names accounted for 35.99% of the to⁃
tal. Among the natural landscape names, the orientation names were the most. The number of location names has increased
significantly since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the spatial evolution of location names presented a trend from the
downstream to the upstream; (2) The location names of natural landscapes were affected by topographic relief, soil thick⁃ness, river distance, falling gradient, slope direction and annual precipitation, showing a distribution pattern of dense in the
middle and sparse in the north and south; (3) There were obvious differences in location names of humanity landscapes. In⁃
fluenced by immigration, traditional family view and military defense, location names of families, settlements and military
were concentrated in the middle and south of the river basin. Influenced by historical celebrities along the river basin, loca⁃
tion names of human names were scattered everywhere. Relying on business activities and residents´ subjective emotions,
the middle of the river basin has become a gathering place for location names of architecture, color and quantitative names.
The location names representing people´s yearning for a better life were evenly distributed. |
